As a feature of the MITSUKI series, the structure allows the tabletop to be removed so that you can cherish and use the product for a long time.
By removing it, you can recolor, repair, maintain, or replace just the tabletop, allowing you to use it with affection for years to come while continuing the story of the time you spent with the wood.

About Sendan Wood
Sendan (China berry) is a type of domestic wood that grows quickly and has just the right amount of hardness. It grows wild in warmer parts of Japan, west of the Izu Peninsula, and is mainly distributed in Shikoku and Kyushu, and can also be seen throughout Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Sendan is a large tree that can grow to a height of about 15m to 30m. In Japan, it has been used as a "protective tree" since the Heian period for Buddhist statues, prayer beads, and other religious items. In recent years, it has become deeply rooted in daily life as a capable wood used for building materials, furniture, and wooden crafts.

In Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, we began planting and promoting Sendan in 2018. Since this is an activity looking 15 to 20 years into the future, Sendan wood is currently still a rare and difficult material to obtain.

Our initiative toward a future that actively utilizes Sendan wood aims to build a sustainable cycle where forestry cooperatives and local governments "grow" it, we manufacturers and sawmills "create" it, housing manufacturers and builders "connect" it, and you, the consumers, "use" it.

 

A "domestic fast-growing hardwood" that can be used in 15-20 years
Although it is a hardwood, Sendan grows quickly and can reach a harvestable size within 15 to 20 years of planting. It can be harvested about three times faster than coniferous trees like cedar and cypress, which leads to the revitalization of the forestry industry.
Furthermore, as forest areas are decreasing globally, the import of logs is restricted, making them difficult to obtain. While Japan is one of the world's leading forest nations, most of its forests consist of cedar and cypress conifers. There is a demand for hardwoods as materials that require strength.

 

A sustainable material that contributes to CO2 reduction
Proportional to its fast growth, Sendan is said to have about three times the CO2 absorption capacity of typical hardwoods. By planting and utilizing Sendan, it also plays a role in suppressing the progression of global warming.
